On Saturday 6th May 2017 we had our 2nd Community Day. Once again we were blessed with perfect weather and a fabulous group of volunteers who willingly gave their time to help improve the school environment for our children.

We now have a willow hide on the field that over the next few months will root and become a growing structure that will provide enjoyment and learning opportunities for years to come. Many thanks to one of our mums who freely gave her time and expertise to this project and to the team that helped her.

The school garden now has a pond which we hope will attract a diversity of wildlife to the garden. We will be edging the pond with stone and filling it with plants the next couple of weeks. We also managed to clear and dig over some new beds in the garden ready for some new season growing. We have a potato bed which will soon be sprouting a range of potato varieties that were picked up at Bridport's Potato Day, one of which is a purple striped variety - I can't wait to see that one in my salad!

Last year there were a lot of improvements made to the reception and key stage 1 areas. The children have been thoroughly enjoying their outdoor environment in ALL weathers! On Community Day our volunteers created new planting areas and weeded and tidied existing ones. One of our parents and his son did a great job of screwing a brio train track in place and varnishing it so that it is now weatherproof. The Wendy House was cleared and made ready for play also. More for the children to enjoy!

Around the rest of the school we have weeded and tided flower beds so that our grounds continue to look their very best. Many thanks to everyone who gave their time on Saturday and to our cake makers who provided welcome refreshments for our volunteers.

We are continually looking for ways to improve the school environment. This often needs funding and so for this reason have set up a crowd funding page which you can find at https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/kidsOutdoors
This was originally set up to fund the willow hide and pond project but thanks to the generosity of our school community, supplies and services were offered free of charge which means we can put any money raised towards new projects. Events at school also raise money for outdoor projects so our pot is growing. We would welcome any ideas you may have so please do come and share. Also, if you would like to join the team of volunteers who help maintain our garden please give your details to the school office.

Many thanks

Sally Rowe
